Some of my latest covers:

texthomepage7Most definitely!  A striking, eye-catching cover is important to your book’s overall success. A good book cover design using graphics, interesting color combinations, fonts and effects that stand out will all contribute to an attractive cover that will grab the prospective customer’s attention. It will make them wonder what you book is about and move from the cover to your blurb or back cover copy, where your writing will pull them in. That’s why you should be selective when choosing your designer. A professionally designed cover can make a big difference in sales. It can create an author or series brand and encourage impulse buys. A cover can be simple or complex but it must evoke questions in the reader’s mind or create emotions when they look at it. Oftentimes, a simple cover is better. Take a look at some of the best sellers from the major publishing companies – the cover is simple but enticing. A well designed cover draws the reader in and the blurb (ebook) and back cover copy (print) is what sells it. A poorly designed cover looks unprofessional, amateurish and can turn off a reader before they even get to the book description. Many readers associate a poorly designed cover with bad writing. You might be the best writer in the world, but if the reader can’t get past the cover, they’ll never know what they’re missing! That’s why it’s important to hire a designer you can trust to portray your book in the best light, even if their ideas are different from your initial cover idea. In today’s marketplace a professionally designed cover has become essential if you want your book to be taken seriously by readers.

I’m Melissa Alvarez. I’m glad you found my site today. I’m a multi-published award winning author. I write both fiction and non-fiction and previously owned and operated New Age Dimensions Publishing. Now I help self-publishing, professional, indie authors by offering artistically designed custom ebook covers and pre-designed ebook covers. I’ve been in the publishing business since 2000 and have many years of experience under my belt. When I ran my publishing company I made all of the ebook covers, print covers and designed the interiors of every print book. I can help you avoid costly mistakes and produce a quality product for much less than most graphic designers charge. If you’d like to know about everything I’ve done in the industry please check out my bio. As both a traditionally published author and self-publisher, I know how important a good quality book cover is to sales. If you’re new to self-publishing, or a seasoned author just venturing into self-publishing, I can help. I’ve designed fiction and non-fiction covers for bestselling authors who brought out their back list and for new authors just starting out. I can help you realize your dream of being a published author or help you prepare for your next release. I’m offering a wide variety of pre-designed covers in a lot of genres as well as custom design work that will bring your unique vision of your book to life. Take a look at the pre-designs listed by genre and price in the top navigation links or consider a custom design for your next release or back list titles on on Kindle, Nook, Pub-It, other ebook format or in print.
”What a difference 24 hours can make. I contacted the company on a Monday morning regarding the design of an e-book “Nisha Nuggets”. Within two hours, I received a call from the President, Melissa Alvarez regarding my inquiry. We discussed my vision and concept specifics for the cover. By Monday evening, I had the first draft, and the final cover Tuesday morning. She brought my vision to life with her creativity in 1-Day. Talk about AMAZING…considering the fact that we were in different states, the process was easy and convenient. I highly recommend Melissa Alvarez for any author seeking creative, quality, and speedy designs for their books.” ~ Nisha Parker
Some of my Latest Pre-designed Covers

If you’re looking for a more affordable option to custom design work, then a pre-designed cover might be perfect for you! I create the pre-designed covers with the same care that I put into custom designs, they can contain between one and six elements (photos, graphics, effects, etc) with regular prices beginning at $39 unless they’re on sale. These are high quality, professional ebook covers created with the same quality of my custom work at a fraction of the cost. Perfect for authors on a budget!

The pre-designed covers are completely unique and I only sell the covers one time and only to one client. That means if you purchase a pre-designed cover from me, that cover belongs to you and only you. Once the cover is sold it is taken off of the site until the author is ready to use it or customized right away and moved to the portfolio page with a link to your website or sales page. I do use stock photography so you might see the same element on another cover but it will never be put together in the same way. I’ve also included single graphic custom designs (usually with added effects) as well as multiple graphic designs in many of my pre-designed covers. All of the pre-designed covers will be customized with your own title, author name or pen name, endorsement/blurb or series name when applicable. I’ll even make minor changes like substituting a font if you like one from another cover better than the one that is on the cover you’re buying. I’ll also adjust glow levels on fonts, add an endorsement line or subtitle or move the text to a different position. However, I will not change the background design or the way the pictures are put together. Just include your change requests in the message section of the order form.

All pre-designed and custom final cover files are sent to you by email in three sizes: 1600 x 2400 at 300 DPI (for Amazon, NookPress, Smashwords, Draft2Digital, Apple, Sony, Kobo, ARe, OmniLit and all other retailers/distributors) and 200 x 300 at 150 DPI and 300 DPI (for your website and marketing materials) with the exact information that you include on the submission form. Also make sure both email addresses you send me are working and can accept high resolution files!

Thanks for being you. ~Patrice Wilton
texthomepage8Custom Designs – A Work of Art:

One of the keys to successful publishing is to have a cover that stands out from the crowd. I know that I’ve personally bought a book based on it’s cover and have been pleasantly surprised to find a new author that I love! When your cover stands out, and is a professional design, then the reader trusts that the content is going to be excellent. Your custom designed cover will be a work of art, something that you can be proud to show off.  With a custom cover I work hard to bring your vision to life and portray the book through the cover. I spend long hours finding the right graphics that fit your blurb and description of your characters. I often spend more hours working on the sample covers than I’ve listed in the package price because I want you to love them all so much that you’ll have a hard time choosing! I do reserve the right to convert any mock-up covers not selected into pre-designed covers.
”Melissa Alvarez turned my manuscript into a self-pubbed novel that can sit proudly on any bookshelf, in any bookstore!” ~ Traci Hall
More For Your Money:

Don’t let cost fool you. There are people putting up fly by night book cover design sites like crazy right now because they’re trying to cash in on the self-publishing craze. They’re even taking variations on the URL’s of established designers, which creates a lot of confusion in the marketplace (it happened to me). I keep up with industry trends and right now you can find custom ebook covers for $5. Just remember this – you get what you pay for. Most of these covers look cheap and unprofessional. Is that really how you want to portray the book that you’ve spent months writing? If you put that much energy into your book, then pay for an outstanding cover to give your book the best opportunity it can have in a marketplace that is saturated with over 400,000 newly published books every year.

Money spent on a quality book cover quickly pays for itself. The investment will be well worth it in the long run. I believe in getting the most bang for your buck so I offer a lot of options in my packages that other designers often charge for. I believe in doing a great job, offering amazing customer service and giving a lot at a reasonable price. I know that some authors may balk at my prices due to the recent influx of cheap covers in the marketplace. That’s why you have to look at the quality of the covers, the experience of the designer, and what’s included in each package so you can compare apples to apples when you’re looking for a book cover designer. I offer many affordable options from professionally pre-designed book covers to a graduating price scale for custom covers based on the elements and time involved. If you compare my pricing with other businesses you’ll see that my prices are lower than many other designers. I’ve made my prices as affordable as possible for the time I put into your book. The big companies normally use simple templates that are very plain for a cover while using readily available software to let you customize it. I customize your cover to your book based on your theme, characters or non-fiction topic. But most importantly, I create your cover based on your vision of how you imagine your cover will look. I discuss your book with you, get to know your characters or topic and pick your brain so that I can create something that truly reflects your vision of your books cover. I ask your likes, your dislikes and will consider them when designing. I also will tell you if what you’re envisioning for your cover will work or if you’re trying to incorporate too many elements from your book into the cover.

You want the cover to look fantastic – not a busy mixture of images that, when reduced to thumbnails on retailer sites, look cluttered or difficult to read. I’ll guide you as much as I can and I feel it’s my responsibility as a designer to point out if something you want isn’t working and to tell you why it doesn’t work.  I go the extra mile because I’m also in your shoes. I do my own covers but if I were to hire a designer, I know exactly what I’d expect of them and that’s what I offer to you. When you self-publish your book never goes out of print so it’s worth every penny to make it outstanding from the start. I also recommend hiring a professional editor to make your book shine! Even though I’ve been an editor and can do the work, I don’t offer it as a service due to my contracts with my own publishers.

Using the Website:

If you see a pre-designed cover that you think fits your book, you can purchase in two ways. Click on the cover to view a large image and add it to the cart on that page. A view cart button will appear above the picture and you can either check out from that link or click the navigation button to the home page to continue shopping. Or you can click add to cart from the home page and a check mark will appear beside the button(s). When you’re finished shopping, click on view cart in the top navigation (in all caps) to view the cart and check out. If you’re interested in purchasing multiple covers I’ve made submitting your info for two at a time super easy! After checking out you’ll be directed to a form to fill out with each book’s information or if you need more time to get the info together, simply return to the site and click on Submit Book Info in the top navigation and you’ll be taken to the form where you can submit the information for up to two covers that will be emailed directly to me so that I can get the covers to you as quickly as possible.

Office Hours:

I work Monday – Friday. Because I’m also an author, I design book covers for other authors when I’m not under deadline for my own books. If you see that I’m “unavailable” for custom design work, that means that I’m working on my own projects. As soon as I’ve completed my project I will change the notice at the top of the page to “Available” again. In the meantime, I invite you to look at the pre-designed covers. I do add to my stock regularly even if I’m not doing custom work. I don’t have specific hours during the week but work whenever I can be at the computer around kids schedules and caring for the horses and dogs (friend me on Facebook to see pics). However, I don’t work on the weekends because it’s reserved for my family.

Delivery time for pre-designed covers is usually 24 to 48 hours after I receive it. Please check back often to see the current pre-designed book covers and the new completed projects in my portfolio.

Thanks for visiting today. If you choose me as your designer, I look forward to working with you.
