Recently I featured the book Baby Star Signs by Chrissie Blaze. I’m happy to bring you an interview with this popular astrologer. I’ve found her monthly horoscopes on her website to be quite accurate. You can also sign up for readings with Chrissie and join her mailing list to keep up to date with her latest news. I hope you enjoy this interview with Chrissie.
Interview with Astrologer Chrissie Blaze
1. What drew you to Astrology?
When I was 14, my Aunt Esme showed me a horoscope for the first time. Although it was full of symbols and squiggles as charts are, I understood it. Strangely, I could interpret this chart. It just made sense to me even though I had never seen one before in this lifetime. Later, I believed I had studied astrology in past lives and this sudden knowledge I had at age 14 disappeared and was replaced by many years of study. In the early 1980s, I qualified as an Astrologer at the Faculty of Astrological Studies, London and have now studied and practiced astrology for over thirty years… but initially when I saw the horoscope it made sense to me.
2. You’re currently teaching a five part series about Astrology. Can you tell us about this course? Do you think you’ll every conduct it online?
It’s based on my book, published in February 2008 by O-Books, “How to Read Your Horoscope in 5 Easy Steps”. After thirty years of study and practice, I realized that astrology is a wonderful practical tool that anyone can use – if they can get past the squiggles, symbols and jargon. Many people begin to study astrology but give up because it seems so complex. Well, it is complex because it is a study of the Cosmos, but even just understanding the fundamentals can really help people. I wrote this book to explain these fundamentals to everyone in 5 easy steps. The five-part series (which, by the way, I am now teaching in one day) is based on the book. I possibly could teach it online one day but haven’t got to that point yet.
3. Can you tell us about the One-Minute Peace Prayer Initiative?
This was launched a couple of years ago by the international metaphysical organization, The Aetherius Society, of which I’ve been a Member for thirty years. The idea behind this is that everyone of any background or religious belief, joins together in prayers for peace for at least a minute at 9:00 p.m. their local time wherever they are. The Aetherius Society teaches that prayer is a tremendous force for change – an outpouring of spiritual energy to bring healing to not only individuals but also balance and harmony to our suffering world. I talk more about this in my book “Power Prayer” co-authored by my husband, Gary Blaze, and Foreword by Marianne Williamson, Adams Media, 2003.
4. Your latest book release is Superstar Signs. Can you tell us what this book is about and what led you to write it?
As mentioned above, I am enthusiastic practitioner of prayer and often engage in sessions of prayer and mantra (chanting) for several hours through an activity we do in The Aetherius Society called Operation Prayer Power. If you have ever tried this you will find that you become more powerful, more dynamic, a better healer, more inspired and more intuitive. After I had completed one of these Sessions, suddenly the title of the book dropped into my mind – boom – there it was – Superstar Signs: Sun Signs of Heroes,Celebrities and You. I had not been thinking about writing this book; it was not in my mind; therefore I concluded that it had come from my superconscious mind; an inspiration if you like. Writing the book was an amazing experience. Most authors will agree that writing a book is 99%perspiration and 1% inspiration. However, this book just flowed, as if I was a channel for inspiration to flow through me. I have written seven books and never had this experience before. After writing each section, I felt uplifted and I know that this is an important book, that it’s meant to be.
What I have done with Superstar Signs is chosen sixty of my personal heroes with a few celebrities that I like sprinkled in, to illustrate the qualities of the twelve Sun Signs. I have also written helpful appraisals of the Sun Signs which I believe are different from what you may have read before. As well as this I include a section in which I give meditations on each Sun Signs and ask questions that you can answer to see if you are using the great power of your Sun sign or not. As an astrologer I believe that the Sun is the boss in our Solar System and our Sun sign gives us great energy and creativity, if we know to use it. For example, if you’re an Aries, don’t sit on the sidelines waiting to be asked; if you’re a Cancer, listen to your gut at all times and if you’re a Libra, use your fine intellect. In the book, I go into tremendous detail as to the approach to life that every Sun sign should take in order that we find our own destiny. The Sun sign is an underestimated tool in astrology and, hopefully, with Superstar Signs, I change that. Our Sun Sign is our powerhouse and the more we use it, the more we will be creative, happy, and, more important, on the right track with our lives.
5. Speaking of Superstar Signs, why is it no surprise that Madonna and Guy Ritchie are getting a divorce, and what does Madonna have in common with Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Well, I could say that it’s difficult for a fiery Sun Sign Leo, Madonna, to really get along with a pragmatic Sun Sign, Virgo, Guy Ritchie. However, that’s a bit of a simplistic approach because in astrology we have to take account of many other factors; where the other person’s Moon is, their Venus, their Mars, their Rising Sign and more. However, since I’m talking about Sun Signs, I will admit they play a big factor when we are living with someone. Two Sun Signs that are so different just find it hard to understand each other on a daily basis. While Leo has an innate need to put on a good show, to be out there in the limelight (and Madonna is a terrific example of a creative Leo and that is why I included her in my book, Superstar Signs), Virgos are modest souls who don’t see the need for all that fuss.
Also, love is a big thing for Leos. They are romantic souls who understand the romance of love affairs and are loyal enough to make good lifetime partners, especially if you keep the love alive with romantic gestures. They do not, however, like to be ignored, unappreciated or taken for granted. You may say “Who does?” but for Leo it is a necessity. I guess that was part of the problem with the Madonna/Guy Ritchie marriage.
However, Madonna and Arnold Schwarzenegger (another Leo I included in Superstar Signs) understand each other. They both want to be seen as strong, creative, impressive, proud individuals and, whether you like them, approve of them, or dislike them, you have to admit they are those things. They are both people with strong wills; they are leaders of others who set trends rather than follow them and are at their best in the limelight.
6. Why was Oprah Winfrey destined to become a voice of social conscience and profound influence in our modern culture?
I believe each and every one of us as a destiny, and it’s our choice whether or not we live up to it. In Oprah Winfrey’s case she came from a disadvantaged childhood where she was abused and she rose to become one of the most influential figures in the world. Consciously or unconsciously, she used the great power inherent within her Sun sign, Aquarius. Because she’s original and also fifty years or more into the future, she’s ahead of the masses. Most people are indoctrinated by everything around them and they just won’t understand an Aquarian. She’s different and doesn’t fit into the mold.
Oprah is a person, like other enlightened Aquarius, who abhors any system of indoctrination for himself or for others. When you see her on television, you know she abhors anything that belittles the human mind and spirit such as inequality, intolerance, prejudice, dishonesty, jealousy, bigotry, injustice, poverty or war. Because of this, others see her as an idealist, espousing social causes for the betterment of the world. However, she is more of a realist, actually, who realizes that all of these ills of society limit us. She has striven, with all her intelligence and energy, to right these wrongs.
I have to admit, for other Aquarians reading this that when I wrote about the sign of Aquarius in my book, Superstar Signs, I was spoiled for choice. I found more noble Aquarians (and Capricorns actually) then any other Sun sign. I am not saying one Sun sign is better than another but that Aquarius and Capricorn tend to get involved in what’s going on in society more than most. That is where they shine.
7. What is it that keeps Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt together apart from their kids?
It’s not just love that keeps them together it’s the fact that they complement each other and truly understand each other. There is a type of Gemini that is high speed and constantly active, rather like high voltage electricity that is always active and hard to contain. Angelina Jolie is definitely this type. While most Hollywood stars do everything they can to appear cool, professional and squeaky-clean, like all the best Geminis, Angelina appears wholly unconcerned by controversy. She has repeatedly shared openly many of her most shocking secrets, being open about her breakdowns, her disorders and her fantasies.
The lifelong lesson of the Gemini is communication; Angelina has built her career on communicating with the public both onscreen and offscreen with an openness bordering on confession! To her partner, Sagittarian Brad Pitt, traveling is learning and learning is growth and this is something he must do or he will sink into deep depression. He is a wild centaur, half man-half horse and he doesn’t appreciate being fenced in; freedom and adventure are his aspirations. Angelina is a constant fascination for Brad; with her he is never still, always learning, growing and moving and I believe this is the glue that holds them together. You can learn more about both these interesting characters in “Superstar Signs.”
8. How has Bill Gates’ Sun sign helped him become the richest man in the world?
I suspect all Scorpios wish they could be as rich as Bill Gates and may wonder how their Sun sign could help them become so wealthy. With a critical, analytical mind, resourcefulness and uncanny sixth sense, Scorpio is a sign that’s skillful at assessing value and using money and resources (their own or those of other people). They have a real talent for getting their hands on other people’s money and using this in the most productive way. While Bill Gates may appear like a Boy Scout (which he was) – enthusiastic, youthful and resourceful; we should not be fooled by the appearance of any Scorpio Sun sign. This is a sign that does not advertise his inner intensity, razor-sharp edge combined with enormous dedication and drive. These are some of the keys to his great success.
9. What’s next for you? Do you have any news, events or upcoming books you’d like to tell us about?
At the moment, I’m promoting my two new books “Superstar Signs” and also “Baby Star Signs”, which is a unique parenting guide using astrology. Both these books are published at the end of October, 2008 by O-Books, so this is keeping me pretty busy with radio shows, lectures and signings. My next major lecture on Superstar Signs is on December 5 in Royal Oak, Michigan. You can e-mail me for information or call (248) 588-0290. My husband, Gary, and I are planning another book, this one quite different. It’s called Mystic Jesus and delves into little known aspects of Jesus’ mystical heritage over the centuries.
10. How can the media reach you for radio, television and other events?
